ARTSHACK DEBUT NOVEL
TUESDAY
Alex gathered up all the flyer from the top of his kitchen work top. Bundled them into his rucksack. Placed his key into his front door and walked out into the Autumn sunshine.
He walked down the steep slope breathing in lungfuls of fresh air. As every day of this week was arriving, Alex was becoming ever more excited at the prospect of living in his beloved Artshack deep within Seafield Woods.
He was planning to settle into his new home, Artshack for a fortnight, before he started his new Friday Over Night Art Class.
He was also thinking about becoming involved in the community of Seafield High Street in some way.
Deep in thought, Alex had made it to the bottom of the slope. He walked for five minutes, then cut off down one of the small side streets aptly named Seafield Lane.
facing Seafield High Street, he never tired of the view that greeted him.
A marvellous cobbled street, with every type of creative shop you could ever imagine lined both sides of the street.
There at the end of Seafield High Street you could catch a glimpse of the sea.
Seafield High Street was so full of charm. You could smell the fresh bread and cakes, coming from the bakery, that had been freshly baked earlier that morning.
From the Cafe, there was the smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfasts.
There was vintage smells too, from the second hand book shop and the vintage clothes shop. What Alex loved best of all was the deep vibrant colours of every single shop front that lined Seafield High Street.
The place was so alive with vibrant colour and laughter...
Seafield High Street sure was an enchanted place to be!
Alex was full of warmth, peace and enchantment strolling along Seafield High Street.
Seafield. There was no lovelier place on earth....
Stop day dreaming Alex. Get those flyers delivered. Then you can treat yourself to a coffee at Ruby's.
He unzipped his rucksack, pulling out a plastic wallet, that was keeping the flyers neat and tidy.
The first place on Seafield was Grimshaw & Woodrow Estate Agents.
He pushed the door open. An old fashioned bell rang over his head.
Alex stepped onto the neatly polished floor "Good morning everyone!"
Within seconds, Joe was by his side. "Hello again Alex, what can I do for you this fine morning?"
"I have brought a flyer advertising my new evening art class, along at my new home Artshack."
Joe read the flyer. For a few minutes he was lost in his own thoughts.
"How truly exciting! I would love to join your new class. Sounds like such an adventure! Count me in!"
Joe grinned at Alex from ear to ear....
"See you at Artshack!"
"Great to meet you again Joe. See you in a fortnight!
Alex made his way to the door, as he did so, he turned and waved, as the bell rang above the door. he couldn't help smiling at the quirkiness of it all, which so matched Joe!
A few shops down, Alex stopped outside the second hand book shop. Stepping inside he entered an ultimately magical World.
His eyes rested on the main feature of the shop. An arch made up of several second hand books that lead your eye through to what can only be described as a cosy nook. There was a book shelf that lined the back wall. In front of this was an old fashioned swivel chair for customers to relax and read a book or two before purchasing.
A man who looked as though he was probably in his early thirties stepped through the nook.
"Hello Sir. Kev Robinson. I am the owner of the bookstore, pleased to meet you. Can I help you look for any books you are interested in?"
"Hi, I am Alex Bainton. Pleased to meet you too. Is it ok if I just have a mooch around first?
"Of course it is Sir!
Alex noticed that all the books were especially well organised. All the books were shelved by Author in alphabetical order.
Trying to remember the names of authors he wanted to try. Alex was very happy!
Some people don't like the smell of second hand books. Alex personally loved it!
Alex chose several books because he loved the artwork on the covers. He had absolutely no idea who the authors actually were!
He took them over to the highly polished wooden counter. Kev was stood behind a gold antique till. Alex was entranced!
"We do things the old fashioned way in this bookstore, Alex. All adds to the sense of escapism for every single customer."
"It is enchanting!" Alex said.
Once he had purchased his books. Alex handed out one of the flyers to Kev.
He read it thoughtfully with much interest.....
"I would be only too happy to attend your new Friday Overnight Art Class. I have always wanted to paint in a nature setting, especially at night! An Artshack deep within Seafield Woods appeals to me...
"Thank You Alex. So great to meet you. See you in a fortnight. Enjoy your books!"
